About 自己紹介
Who I am, what I build and why I build it that way.
Hiya, I'm MattFor, a computer science student who has been programming for over ten years. I've been interested in computers since primary school, I've been at it ever since I first discovered the processor in LBP2.
How I work#

I focus on understanding how things actually work, not on learning just the bare minimum. What matters to me is not only how something works, but why it works that way.
That's why a lot of my projects go a layer lower than they strictly need to. A Discord bot that runs its own watchdogs and incident tooling. A neural network with no machine learning library underneath. A dictionary that reads words straight out of other programs through accessibility APIs, and falls back to OCR when there's nothing to read.

In my free time I like building things with practical use that genuinely help people: open-source libraries, tools for very specific problems, and services other people rely on every day. Relaxy! is the biggest of those, and it taught me most of what I know about keeping software alive in production.
Beyond the degree#
I run a student research group focused on machine learning, and I take part in hackathons (such as HackYeah), events (such as Warsaw IT Days), and CTFs. I'm also a community manager for Fancy Games, where I look after the Escape the Backrooms community and the tools it runs on.
Next, I want to specialise in advanced algorithms, especially artificial intelligence.
Things I like#
- LittleBigPlanet. Play, create, share. This whole site is a love letter to it.
- Japanese. I'm learning it, which is how things like Lexiglance and my input method setup happen. Hover the Japanese on this site: 勉強 中 to see Lexiglance do its thing.
- Playing Spy in TF2, with a HUD I've been tweaking for fifteen years. Though I don't I'll ever be prem atp :P
- Void Linux what a godsend, everything works flawlessly, no distribution downflow issues, insanely fast and I can tweak everything to my needs (which is why I've got so many little projects associated with it)

About this site#
I wrote it from scratch: a small Bun server rendering Markdown, with a websocket for the live bits. The pointers you might see drifting around belong to other visitors on the same page, the chat is shared by everyone currently on the site, and the bubbles floating at the edges can be popped. Some of them hold prizes for your sticker album.
The materials, stickers and sounds come from LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2. Here's how it kinda works together, and a big thanks to everyone from the credits.
