Escape the Backrooms Community

Active Ongoing Community manager (Fancy Games) · organisation owner

The tooling I build and run for the Escape the Backrooms community as a community manager for Fancy Games: a speedrun verification bot, a LiveSplit autosplitter, a UE4SS fork and the community wiki.

I'm a community manager for Fancy Games, overseeing the community of Escape the Backrooms, and I own the Escape the Backrooms Community organisation where the community's tooling lives.

What's in it#

  • etb-speedrun-bot-v2 ("The Watcher"): a rewrite of the bot behind the speedrun leaderboards and run verification, originally by @Reokin. Members link their speedrun.com profile and the bot keeps their roles in sync. It speaks to Discord's gateway and REST API directly over aiohttp, with no bot framework, stores links in MongoDB, and runs sandboxed in bubblewrap next to Relaxy.
  • autosplitter: the LiveSplit autosplitter for game versions 5.0 and up. Auto start, splits on level transitions and cutscenes, load removal, and a paused timer in cutscenes, menus and on crashes. Built on uhara by ru-mii.
  • UE4SS: our fork of RE-UE4SS, the Unreal Engine scripting system the modding scene relies on.
  • community-wiki: confirmed features, suggestion guidelines, templates for level, item and entity suggestions, and a guide to running the game on Linux.

Before any of this existed I wrote a team builder that nightmare-difficulty runners used early in the game's life.
